Well Bears fans, I hoped for a reason to wake up happy on Tuesday and my wish came true. It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but we’ll take it right? Last week I made some bold predictions about our beloved football team and for the most part they actually made me look somewhat smart. Kind of..
Once again the Bears offense and defense came out firing on all cylinders! A first drive TD for Mitch and all seemed right for him to lead us to our most explosive offensive game yet. I had high hopes for Trubisky, hence my 300+ yards and 3 TD game prediction, but inconsistency and lack of execution led to a 200 yard, 2 TD and 2 int performance. He did have some impressive scrambles and kept plays alive, but he continues to miss the simple throws that end up resulting in punts and lost opportunities. Although it’s frustrating, we need to remember that he is young, inexperienced and is working with an entirely new supporting cast and offensive coordinator. At some point that excuse will not fly, but all things considered he is making enough plays to win games behind a dominant defense. Imagine when he finds his comfort zone and begins connecting on throws downfield! I truly believe that time is coming soon and we will start blowing lesser teams out.
And, about that aforementioned dominant defense. Words cannot describe how awesome they look right now!!! A top 10 defense last year, has become a top 3 defense so far this year and very well may end up being the best defense in football. I predicted the Bears to score a defensive TD and man did Amukamara make a play when we needed it the most! Khalil Mack is absolutely a STUD and has put together two of the most dominant games I can remember watching. And Roquan Smith did not disappoint leading the Bears with 8 tackles. All in all, 5 first half sacks and they were flying around the field making gang tackles reminiscent of our 2006 Super Bowl defense. I was confident they would create havoc for Russell Wilson and boy did they ever. There is still some work to be done on the defensive side but unlike last week we finished strong.
Here’s a look at how my other predictions fared.
Tarik Cohen has big returns and 2 TDS
Well I was off here since he didn’t get in the end zone but he did have a 54 yard return and a couple nice catches. He is instant offense as we saw last year and is always one juke from going the distance. Nagy needs to get him the ball in space more!
Anthony Miller breaks out -
I wouldn’t call this a breakout performance but the wide out did make his first career touchdown grab and looks the part. Keep your eyes on #11
Trey Burton has 7 catches and a TD.
I was close on this one. He ended with 4 catches and a TD. I still expect to see him become a focal point of this offense since Nagy loves using Tight Ends.
Next up for the Bears is the Arizona Cardinals! They are 0-2 and have only scored 6 points in 2 games. Look for another Mack Attack and for Trubisky to have his best game as a pro. I believe in you Mitch!
